Default Has anyone tried Ranger/Monk?

Heyhey
Well, i searched for the build directory and i couldn't seem to find it.
I'm not going to ask if it works since i'm fairly sure all builds work.
Just want to see if anyone has tried this, is it fun? How's it do in PvE and PvP?
Also, can rangers go melee at all? In most MMORPGs, rangers/archers have light armor and can do some melee; is it true for Guild Wars?
I'm considering this build because i got a Lawful Good Elf Ranger Paladin from a "D & D What Character Are You" test. Ranger and monk are the closest i could get to this, hehe.
Thanks a bunch!

You know, Rangers in D&D are either melee or ranged, but normally does one better than the other.

Rangers in GW can do melee, but not very well. Most builds focus on one aspect of combat, not both. If you plan on playing a melee Ranger, go R/W. If you plan on ranged, feel free to go R/Mo.

I guess someone could post the BarrageBot build...

Im a lvl 20 R/Mo and i have to say, its not a bad mix at all, Monk seem to work out with all classes in the game.

But! Beeing a R/Mo is most usefull in the early hours of the character, as you move towards Lions Arch you will use less and less Monk skills.

Hey, the only skill im actually using for a Monk is Rebirth atm.

I do not wish to change my mix, since i like beeing able to ressurect many times, and it will be very helpfull when you play PvE, in PvP altho, i dont know if you really get the time to use any of the Monk Potential when you are playing as a ranger.

I could always define it as this, Ranger skills rule, but Rangers doesnt have the amounts of energy needed for them (unless you really want to go with that horrible looking Druid Armor set).

Im a lvl 20 R/Mo, and i only use Rebirth from my monk profession.
I am currently using 3 Diffrent bows,
1 (short bow) with 10% Penetrating, +28 Health and +10% dmg while hexed
1 (ascalon bow) with +15%DMG when HP is above 50%, Energy String (+1 Energy / hit, -1 Regen) *Also note, -1 regen makes you gain 2 regen instead of 3*
1 (storm bow) with +10%DMG when hp is above 50%, Cold Damage and +23 Health.

Reason why i listed these, The Energy one, if you plan to go R/Mo, you cant live without it, Barrage + Tigers Fury + Energy Stealing = ALOT of energy (as long as there is atleast 2 foe's)
With that you might be able to get the full potential out of your R/Mo, if you create one.

I also want to note, these are my 2 cent, i dont want any flaming/flooding/comments about my own theories in the game.
These are my theories, and they wont change, even if you try to convince me that it stinks/suxx.

My main character is a R/Mo. I've been through the game with him and it works out well. This is only for PvE. I haven't played PvP with him. The build I use:

- 10+1+1 marksmanship (mask + rune)
- 7+1 expertise (rune)
- 10 smiting prayers
- 9 healing prayers

Skill set:

- Distracting Shot
- Concussion Shot
- Healing Breeze
- Heal Other
- Rebirth
- Favorable Winds
- Shield of Judgement {e}
- Balthazar's Aura

Typical PvE fight (with henches):

- Find the mobs.
- Cast Favorable Winds
- Get at range with longbow and attack, backing up as needed to pull mobs in
- Switch to shortbow and attack again
- Depending on situation, cast Balthazar's Aura on Stefan (fighter hench)
- Fight for a bit and regen energy
- If one of the casters/healers starts taking damage, drop shield of judgement on them
- Spot heal as necessary
- If monk mobs in fight, use concussion shot to shut them down
- If elementalist mobs in fight, use concussion shot on their long-casting stuff (Rodgerts, etc.) to shut them down
- If stompers in the fight, shut down at least one with distracting shot
- If warrior boss, shut down healing signet with distracting shot

The build has worked out well for PvE for me. Your mileage may vary, but I've had a lot of fun playing it.

i have a lv 20 ra/mo and i use the following:

Penetrating attack
barrage
distracting shot
dodge
whirling defence
Healing breeze
Rebirth
Mending (use it always at the start on myself, i can miss he mana regen because of high expertise)

I stay alive a long time mostly because of high hp regen when neccesarry(mending + healing breeze is +10 regen for me) and a high defence when raped (whirling defence)
